About
The Wareham High School Alumni Association began in 1992. Four local residents, Claire (Conway) Smith, the late Jean (Tassanari) Gifford, Virginia (Boyd) Eldridge, and Frank Gomes met briefly to discuss whether or not there might be an interest in the formation of an alumni association, based on a successful breakfast reunion that the Town of Wareham had during it’s bicentennial celebration. All four agreed that there seemed to be interest and moved forward to initiate a larger group meeting. Within a month, at the first official meeting in November 1992, four had blossomed to seventeen, and we haven’t stopped increasing our membership since.
The WHS Alumni Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to foster fellowship and spirit in the Wareham Schools, raise funds for financial assistance to Wareham High School graduates and others, and to serve as a connective organization to all those who have graduated from Wareham High School.
Membership is open to any graduate, family member, any attendee, faculty, or employee of the Wareham school system or to any one who wishes to support the organization. Membership dues are required on an annual or lifetime basis. (Please see membership)
The association has a Board of Directors with a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer, elected by the Board. Meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month with an annual meeting held in May.
The WHS Alumni Association holds two events each year. The first event is the annual fund raiser and the date is always the second Saturday in March. All proceeds from this event, which traditionally has been a dinner and auction, goes toward scholarships.
The second event is a grand reunion held annually on the second Saturday in August. The Grand Reunion is generally a social hour followed by dinner, open to both the public and to anyone who has graduated from Wareham High School.
Over the years the Grand Reunion has also hosted individual class reunions, within the Grand Reunion, something we strongly support. There are a variety of ways to do this and if you want further information, please do not hesitate to contact us. We will be very happy to offer suggestions as to how you can coincide your class reunion with ours.
In addition to our events, we always welcome the opportunity for you to donate a scholarship in your class’s name. (See Scholarships)
We look forward to having you join the Wareham High School Alumni Association.
